Thor and Jane will no longer be in a relationship when “Thor: Ragnarok” hits theaters. Marvel

“Thor: Ragnarok” has a huge cast with big name stars, but Natalie Portman isn’t one of them. The “Jackie” star will not appear in the third “Thor” flick, and the reason why has officially been confirmed (spoilers ahead!).

Thor and Jane have broken up, Entertainment Weekly reports. It’s not exactly surprising. When reports first came out that Portman wouldn’t appear, many speculated that Thor and Jane had ended their romance. Many speculated that Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) would become his love interest, but that remains unconfirmed.

Let’s be honest: the Asgardian prince and human scientist were bound to break up at some point. They’re literally worlds apart. However, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) doesn’t seem to enjoy break-up scenes.

Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) broke up off screen before “Captain America: Civil War” last year. Betty Ross (Liv Tyler), who fell for the Hulk (then played by Edward Norton), was never mentioned after Mark Ruffalo took over the role. Jane and Thor can just be added to the growing list of MCU romances that disappeared.

It seems unlikely that Thor and Jane will ever reunite. When asked about the franchise last year, Portman said she wasn’t coming back. “As far as I know, I’m done. I don’t know if maybe one day [Marvel will] ask for an ‘Avengers 7’ or whatever I have no idea. But as far as I know, I’m done,” she told the Wall Street Journal in August.

Though Thor will be without Jane, the movie will still have some interesting female characters. Valkyrie is a warrior that Thor meets on Sakaar, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said she is “much more his equal and in many ways his superior.” Meanwhile, the villain, Hela (Cate Blanchett), will also be a woman. After spending millions of years locked up, expect her to be a lot more vicious than the other ladies in Thor’s life.

“Thor: Ragnarok” will hit theaters Nov. 3, 2017.
