Does Queen Elizabeth II hate Kate Middleton’s favorite footwear?

Her Majesty is known for her disapproval of wedges. An insider told Vanity Fair earlier that the Queen isn’t a fan of wedge shoes. The source added, “she really doesn’t like them and it’s well known among the women in the family.”

Meanwhile Samantha Leal of Marie Claire described Queen Elizabeth as a “notorious wedge-hater.” This is the reason Middleton doesn’t wear this footwear in her presence even if she is very fond of it. But there were few instances when the duchess couldn’t stop but wear her favorite shoe.

This week, the Duchess of Cambridge wore espadrilles wedges twice. On Monday, Middleton visited the “Back to Nature Garden” that she co-designed. It debuted at the Chelsea Flower Show in May.

She arrived in a teal mini dress that only costs $200 which she paired with a Castañer Carina 60 Canvas Wedge Espadrilles that only cost $130. On Tuesday, Middleton stepped out again using the same footwear.

One netizen asked on an online forum, Quora, why it’s controversial for royal ladies to wear wedges. The question received various responses.

One said that there’s a simple answer: “the Queen doesn’t like them at all.” The netizen pointed out how Middleton disrespected the Queen when she wore a pair of wedge in the Queen’s presence during the “Back to Nature Garden” debut.

Meanwhile, Chrissie Nyssen believed that the Queen’s dislike of wedges could be due to its history.

“The Queen hates wedges, because they remind her of austerity and rationing during the war. One thing that was not rationed was cork, so people used it to make their own shoes, which had to be a wedge shape because the cork was too soft to make a separate sole and heel,” she wrote.

She also defended Middleton’s choice of footwear at the Chelsea Flower Show. According to her, wearing a wedge is perfect for the occasion because it distributes body weight easily. Meanwhile, spike heels just sink into the soft grass.

Although Middleton loves wedges, she also uses stiletto heels, especially on formal engagements. The duchess secret to wearing heels all day is Alice Bow. The brand wants women to enjoy their footwear, so they offer comfortable leather insoles, the solution to ugly and ineffective insoles.
