First lady Melania Trump has hired a chief of staff, the White House announced Wednesday, starting her process of moving to Washington, D.C.

Assistant to the president Lindsay Reynolds will manage the office of the first lady. Reynolds served as associate director of the White House Visitors Office under President George W. Bush and has over 14 years of experience in "political fundraising, event management and logistical expertise," the White House said. Reynolds is also the daughter-in-law of Mercer Reynolds, who was the national finance chair for Bush's re-election campaign in 2004.

Melania Trump has taken an unusually methodical approach to assembling her staff -- Reynolds is her first official hire as first lady. She has yet to move into the White House, instead remaining in New York City with her son Barron, 10, and has not made a public appearance since attending post-inauguration festivities in Washington, D.C.

"I am putting together a professional and highly experienced team which will take time to do properly," Melania Trump said in a statement. "I am excited to be organizing and bringing together such a dynamic and forward thinking group of individuals who will work together to make our country better for everyone.”

While tabloids reported on Wednesday that the first family would wait until the end of the school year to evaluate whether Melania and Barron would join President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C., spokeswoman Stephanie Winston Wolkoff told CNN the first lady and would move into the White House in the spring.

"Mrs. Trump will be moving to D.C. and settling into the White House at the end of the school year, splitting her time between New York and D.C. in the meantime," Wolkoff said.

While in New York City, Melania and Barron will continue to live in their $100 million penthouse in Trump Tower.
