Eager viewers might have picked up on a big comedic reunion in “Toy Story 4” with Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele joining the voice cast as a pair of carnival prize stuffed animals. Speaking as a guest on “The IMDb Show,” Key discussed the paths he and Peele have taken since the end of their beloved sketch comedy show, “Key and Peele,” and whether or not fans can expect a revival anytime soon.

“Right back into sync,” Key told host Tim Kash about getting back into a groove with Peele. “It was riding a bike.”

Key went on to explain how Pixar and “Toy Story 4” director Josh Cooley welcomed the rhythms and vernacular that the two have ingrained from so many years of working together. Key said the "edge" that their dynamic brought to the film was desired by the team making the movie who believed it would help the characters play to adults in the audience.

Moving on from that discussion, Kash asked if “Key and Peele” would ever return in some form.

“The show will not ever come back in the form that it was,” Key confirmed. “You have been witnessing the evolution - me wanting to get back to my roots of classical theater and drama, Jordan fulfilling a dream of being a filmmaker was all starting to bubble up when we were at 'Key and Peele.' The way the sketches look - they look like films because all we want to do is films. I want to write more sketches where I get to be in a harness and do action stuff because I just really want to be an action star and so we were making our dreams come true in a small way in the sketches.”

Since the end of “Key and Peele” in 2015, Key has pursued his action star dreams in films like “The Predator,” while also working extensively as a voice actor in films “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation” and “Storks.”
