A 35-year-old woman in Ohio allegedly drowned her 93-year-old grandmother in the kitchen sink, before turning herself in.

Heidi Matheny of Eaton then went to the Preble County Jail just before 6 p.m. Tuesday, and said she drowned her grandmother, Alice Matheny. Heidi told the cops she killed her grandmother on "a day like any other day," WDTN-TV reported.

The accused told the police she and her grandmother had enjoyed some ice cream together before Alice went to do the dishes. Heidi then approached her grandmother from behind and shoved her head into the kitchen sink. She held her grandmother's head down "until the bubbles stopped," Heidi told the Eaton police.

The granddaughter then dragged the elderly woman's body onto the couch. Since she wasn't sure if her grandmother was dead yet, Heidi filled up a bathtub with water and then placed her grandmother in it for about 15 minutes, before going to the county jail.

The officers then responded to the apartment and found the deceased woman in the bathtub. Her body was sent to the Montgomery County Coroner's Officer for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

While speaking to the police, Heidi said she took her grandmother to a doctor's appointment the day before, during which she was told Alice needed to be placed in a nursing home. However, the granddaughter said she could not afford it and her insurance would not cover it.

Heidi told the cops she "just lost" it, when questioned about why she killed her grandmother.

She also told officers she was stressed about her grandmother needing care from a nursing home, according to the Kansas City Star.

"It's nothing that (the grandmother) did ... She's a perfect freaking grandma," the granddaughter said.

Heidi added she was just "sick of seeing her."

The granddaughter also said she "felt like she put the dog down" and believed her grandmother was now at peace.

"According to the confession, she was just tired of taking care of a grandmother," Eaton Police Division Chief Steven Hurd said, according to the outlet.

"It's difficult not to take this to heart when you have a 35-year-old granddaughter who allegedly drowned her grandmother of 93 years of age in the bathtub," Hurd added.

Heidi was arrested on one charge of murder. Formal charges are still pending as the investigation is underway.
