A Russian woman was arrested Thursday for killing her roommate and dismembering his body after she found her pet cat dead.

The incident came to light after a man walking his dog found partially-burned bags with dismembered body parts and immediately alerted the police. The responding officers opened the bags and found leg bones, ribs, shoulder and parts of the victim's pelvis. As part of the investigation, police executed a search warrant at the unidentified 39-year-old man’s home and found blood spots on the floor of the apartment that he shared with 41-year-old Anastasia Kh.

Police detained Kh and during questioning, she admitted to killing her roommate. She told the police she bludgeoned him to death with a hammer and then dismembered his body with a handsaw. She then stuffed the body parts in five plastic bags and traveled to a site three miles away from the apartment by a local bus where she burned the plastic bags.

“She hit him with a hammer on the head. She also kicked him multiple times. Having killed him, the woman suspect dismembered the body,” the investigative committee said in a statement.

Police said the two were in a “long running dispute” and that Kh had blamed the victim for killing her beloved pet cat. Meanwhile, forensic experts said the body of the victim was dismembered in a “professional way.” Investigation into the case was ongoing.
