A Chicago woman was killed early Sunday morning in a hit-and-run just moments after yelling, "Bye, Miami," and while she and her friends were on their way to Miami International Airport.

Mariah Michelle Logan, 23, had been celebrating a three-day birthday trip with friends and as the group was minutes away from the airport, Logan hung out of the right rear passenger window and was hit by a Range Rover, according to the Miami Herald.

The male driver stopped briefly after the incident but then drove off, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The identity of the driver remains unknown. Police are investigating the case as a traffic homicide and are looking into whether alcohol was a factor.

"I’m still grieving," said Logan's friend Kenyatta Burch, whose birthday the group was celebrating. "I lost my best friend, my sister. Blood cannot make us closer."

According to ABC7 in Chicago, Logan worked in the suburb of Waukegan as a mental health technician for people with developmental disabilities.
