  • Filmmaker Woody Allen believes that he is still an “outsider” in Hollywood

Even after being a part of the movie industry for more than five decades, filmmaker Woody Allen still feels like an “outsider” in Hollywood, and he also claimed that winning an Academy Award means “very little” to him.

In an interview with Daily Mail, the 84-year-old director opened up about his illustrious career and discussed how he has never chosen a side in Hollywood. The four-time Oscar-winning filmmaker further stated that box office numbers and fancy awards do not excite him.

Allen directed his first feature film “What’s New Pussycat?” in 1965. The film turned out to be a success and made him famous. But to Allen, the movie is nothing but a “pile of junk.”

“I have never been part of the club in Hollywood. I do not go to parties. I do not care about the box office or awards. Winning an Oscar for me has very little meaning beyond the practical. The first film I wrote, 'What's New Pussycat?', was incredibly successful but it was a pile of junk and an embarrassment to me,” Allen said.

The “Wonder Wheel” helmer also explained that he has never made a “great movie” in his career. However, he hopes to get a chance to make movies like “The Seventh Seal” or “The Bicycle Thief” once the pandemic is over.

Allen also feels that he has never been able to satisfy himself “artistically.”

“I still don't feel I've made a great movie like Federico Fellini or Ingmar Bergman, nothing like 'The Seventh Seal' or 'The Bicycle Thief'. I won't stop trying because although I've been reasonably successful I have never satisfied myself artistically,” Allen said.

Allen has written the script for more than 80 movies in his career and won four Academy Awards.

Later in the interview, he also addressed his daughter Dylan Farrow’s sexual assault allegations. Speaking on the matter, the “Blue Jasmine” director revealed that the allegations are “false” and he is not “fazed” by the ongoing controversy.

Allen concluded by saying that he ignores what people say about him and surrounds himself with people who know the truth.

“Even if Dylan [whose mother is Allen’s ex, Mia Farrow] was to come out and say she made the whole thing up and was sorry, some people would still believe the story,” he explains. “So I ignore it. I work. I carry on. I surround myself with people I’ve known for a long time, people who know the truth,” Allen said.

In 2014, Allen’s daughter made sexual assault charges against him and claimed that the filmmaker molested her after he and actress Mia Farrow adopted her at the age of seven. Last year, in an interview with CBS, she provided numerous details about how Allen allegedly sexually assaulted her when she was seven years old.
