Zach Gilford, best known for playing QB1 Matt Saracen on Friday Night Lights, is engaged.

The 29-year-old actor popped the question to his girlfriend of one year, Kiele Sanchez, Us Weekly reports.

They are both very happy, a source told Us Weekly.

Gilford and Sanchez, 35, first met on the set of the TV show, The Matadors, in spring 2010.

Sanchez was previously married to director and writer Zach Helm, who penned the 2006 Will Ferrell comedy-drama Stranger than Fiction.

Following a number of minor roles in mediocre feature films, TV movies and pilots, Sanchez has been enjoying recent success in the A&E series The Glades, which was recently renewed for a third season.

Gilford, on the other hand, has appeared in a handful of films and TV shows. Most recently, he had a lead role in the now-cancelled Shonda Rhimes (Grey's Anatomy) medical drama, Off the Map, which only lasted for one season.

Following news of Gilford's engagement, Twitter news feeds have been dominated by musings about his Friday Night Lights character, Matt Saracen. Gilford portrayed the beloved backup quarterback-turned football star for four seasons, before new characters and storylines took over. Saracen returned to Friday Night Lights for its fifth and final season, which aired earlier this year. In the season finale, Saracen proposes to longtime love Julie Taylor.

My dreams of marrying Matt Saracen have been dashed, wrote one fan.

Matt Saracen is ENGAGED? And it's NOT to Julie Taylor? My life is a lie! wrote another.

Despite big names like Brian Grazer and Peter Berg (who was also responsible for the film of the same name), and multiple award nominations, Friday Night Lights was pulled from NBC after two seasons due to low ratings. The show moved to DirecTV for three more seasons, as Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler), Tami Taylor (Connie Britton) continued with their football lives and changed football fields, switching from the Dillon Panthers to the East Dillon Lions.

Since the wrap of Friday Night Lights, its main cast members have continued to thrive in other projects. Gilford's next feature film, Answers to Nothing, opposite Dane Cook and Barbara Hershey, opens in theaters on Friday.

Meanwhile, Britton, who was nominated for an Emmy for Friday Night Lights this year, currently stars as Vivien Harmon on the FX horror series, American Horror Story.

Taylor Kitsch, who played the tough yet dreamy fullback Tim Riggins on Friday Night Lights, is gearing up for his first major film role, playing the title character in the sci-fi film John Carter, out in March. Kitsch, 30, also stars in the big screen adaptation of the popular game Battleship, due for a May release.
