  • Natural red hair is considered the rarest of hair colors
  • Redheads are given the chance to shine on National Redhead Day
  • The redhead appreciation day is celebrated on Nov. 5

Natural red hair is considered the rarest of hair colors. Being born with this hair color has become a source of pride for some, but for many, it has come with certain stereotypes. This is why every Nov. 5, every redhead is given a chance to shine and show pride in their locks on National Redhead Day. This day was started by two redhead sisters, aiming to empower every ginger out there.

To celebrate National Redhead Day in 2022, let's take a look at 16 of the most famous gingers we know:

1. Julianne Moore

Named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2015, Julianne Moore is certainly one of the most famous gingers in 2022. Over the years, she has not just earned recognitions such as an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, Golden Globe Awards and Emmy Awards, but her iconic straight, red hair has also been featured in many films since the '90s. She even wrote a children's book series about a character named Freckleface Strawberry.

Rose Leslie's role as Ygritte on "Game of Thrones" introduced many to her naturally red hair. In her younger years, she wanted to change her hair because she was the only redhead in her family. Women's Wear Daily mentioned Leslie grew tired of being cast for redhead roles only. But now she appreciates her natural hair and has expressed her appreciation for those who maintain their dyed red hair – one big task she experienced when playing Clare for HBO's "The Time Traveler's Wife," where her hair was deemed "not red enough."

The prince is fifth in line to the British throne and married to actress Meghan Markle, a celebrity in her own right. She also voiced Little Red in the short "I Am Little Red."

5. Bryce Dallas Howard

Bryce Dallas Howard, not to be confused with her fellow redhead and celebrity twin Jessica Chastain, naturally has red hair, but for her role as Claire Dearing in "Jurassic World," she got a little bit of a boost for the character's signature hair. Famously known for her role as Amy Pond in "Doctor Who," where she sported her signature red hair in its full glory, fans were surprised when she made her debut into the Marvel cinematic universe for the role of Nebula – with no hair at all. Gillan shaved all her hair for the role, and Marvel Studios turned it into a wig, a gift she still keeps.

8. Michael Fassbender

The natural ginger often had to dye his hair for different roles, including his portrayal of Magneto in the "X-Men" films, but he said in a 2011 interview that his allegiance was still with gingers.

9. Conan O'Brien

The American television host, comedian, writer and producer is best known for his late-night talk shows, which he has been involved with for almost three decades. When "Enchanted" actress Amy Adams talked to natural redhead O'Brien on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," she said she enjoyed being a redhead much more. Also, in the same conversation, Adams said she noticed a difference when she turned red. Amy Adams and Isla Fisher are known as Hollywood twins for their appearance, but Fisher is, in fact, a natural redhead. However, she did not always love her hair color. Talking to Marie Claire Australia, she said, "When I was going through adolescence, having red hair was something that made me feel a little different to people - I wouldn't say I naturally embraced that difference, I sort of wanted to blend in." As she became an adult, her perspective changed. She said, "When I got older, I really realized it made me feel unique."

Though Christina Hendricks' natural hair color is blonde, she has made quite the impression as a redhead on "Mad Men" that it became her signature look. She has been dyeing her hair from a young age, inspired by one of the most popular fictional redheads of all time – Anne of Green Gables. Talking to Marie Claire about her first time going red with the help of her mom, she said, "When she finished, I felt this burst of energy, like, 'Ah, I'm finally me!'—which is a pretty funny sentiment for a 10-year-old."

Bella Thorne has had red hair since her Disney days, and many believed she was naturally a redhead, but Thorne herself revealed she was born blonde. However, she had such an affinity for her red hair that she even had a breakdown when Disney suggested going back to her blonde roots.

"A lot of people don't know I'm not actually a redhead. I'm a blonde. I dyed it for 'Big Love.' It started off more of a deep red, and Disney was like, Why don't we take Bella all the way to blonde again?' I don't know why, but I had a breakdown and so overreacted. I wanted to go back to red," she told Allure.
