A 16-year-old boy, who was taken to a hospital after he met with an accident, reportedly died just 30 minutes after he was administered an injection by a doctor.

The victim's family alleged the doctor was in an inebriated condition when he was treating the patient. The incident took place Monday evening in Jalandhar, a city in the northern Indian state of Punjab. The victim was identified only as Vansh.

The family members allegedly beat up the doctor after they learned he was drunk. The police then arrived at the scene and launched an investigation, Tribune India reported.

Preliminary investigation revealed the accused, identified as Dr Jitendra, was under the influence of alcohol when he was attending to his patients. On Monday night, a medical examination conducted on the doctor confirmed he was drunk. A case under Section 304 (culpable homicide) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the doctor.

A case was registered against the doctor Tuesday for giving wrong treatment to the teenager, which may have caused his death.

Chander Kumar, father of the victim, stated his son had met with an accident in which a school bus was involved, Jagran.com reported [Google Translate showed]. The victim was rushed to the hospital with injuries around his ribs.

His family members alleged the teenager died due to the negligence of the doctor and hospital staff, and added the victim was given a wrong dose of injection.

Health officials said they have launched an investigation into the incident and the charges of medical negligence will be placed once the accusations are confirmed.

The incident took place in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The family said the staff at the hospital was busy on their cellphones while the baby boy was kept on the warmer. The baby reportedly died after he was burned on the chest, back and abdomen.
