A tractor trailer ran over two young children in a farming accident in Kosciusko County, Indiana on Tuesday afternoon.

The unnamed children aged three and five were reportedly under the tractor when 26-year-old Benjamin Sheets drove the vehicle forward to haul out the loaded corn.

Both children were struck when the tractor moved and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Fox 11 News reported that family members told authorities that the children lived in an adjoining home in the property Southeast of Nappanee and had been playing in the fenced-in yard of a farm on 5000 W 1350 and no one noticed that they were under the tractor.

Purdue University reported in their 2018 Indiana Farm Fatality Summary that there were 33 farm-related deaths in Indiana in 2018 with the number nine per cent higher than the number of fatalities for every year since 1970 and the number getting higher every year.

The ages of the average victims would revolve around 48 years old and above and children were rarely involved in the accidents.
