A three-year-old boy was stabbed by a stranger while walking with his family in a street in Tbilisi, Georgia, on Wednesday.

A video of the incident showed the boy walking holding his mother’s hand while his younger brother and father walked behind them. Suddenly, a woman approaches the child, pulls out a knife from her bag and slashes the boy in the face before attempting to stab his younger brother. The woman, however, fled after the father managed to pull the younger boy away from her. The man ran behind the attacker but backed off after she threatened him with the knife.

The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital with cuts to his cheek and nose. Meanwhile, police checked the CCTV footage and were able to track the attacker. The unidentified woman, 51, was taken into custody the same day and charged with intentional infliction of grave injury to the health of a minor. The woman could be sentenced to up to 10 years imprisonment with found guilty.

Meanwhile, the boy’s parents said they had never seen the attacker before. The victim was being treated at the hospital and doctors said his condition had improved.

“The state of health has improved, we intend to discharge the child. The patient had fairly deep wounds in the area of the nose and right cheek. We provided initial surgical care to the patient and then, stitched the wound. Currently, the health condition has improved and he will be discharged,” a doctor said.

The investigation was ongoing to find out the motive behind the attack.
