A 6-year-old girl and her toddler brother suffered head injuries after they somersaulted down an escalator at a Russian shopping mall last week.

The mother of the two children asked her daughter, Mudina, to stand outside a fashion store and look after her brother, Mukhammadali, as she and her friend tried on clothes inside the shop. Instead of waiting for her mother, the girl pushed her toddler brother’s stroller onto the escalator following which the accident took place.

A video of the incident showed the siblings tumbling down the escalator after Mudina loses control. After they reach the bottom of the escalator, the stroller lands on top of them. In the meantime, another child, believed to be Mudina’s friend, can be seen running for help.

The siblings were rushed to a nearby hospital with head injuries. The toddler also suffered wounds to his face and lost two teeth. While he remained at the hospital, the girl has since been discharged, local newspaper Kp.ru reported.

After the video of the incident went viral on social media, people started blaming their mother for leaving them unsupervised.

Local authorities were investigating the incident. It was not clear if the mother will be charged in connection with the incident.

The incident comes a year after an infant fell to his death after his mother accidentally dropped him from an escalator at a Chinese mall. The woman was coming down the escalator when the 3-month-old baby slipped out of her hand and died after falling three floors down.

Video of the incident, which went viral on social media, showed the unidentified mother walking down the escalator while holding the baby in her left hand. When she takes the second step, she loses balance and tilts to the left side and suddenly, the baby slips off her hand and falls down.
