Gabriel Luna was excited to share news that he is coming back to “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” After being written out in the fall, the actor will reprise his role as Ghost Rider in the Season 4 finale.

“You guys have no idea how hard it was to keep that a secret for the last few months,” Luna wrote on Instagram. He celebrated by posting a photo of himself with stunt double Eddie Braun. The stuntman is known for completing Evel Knievel’s jump over Snake River Canyon last year.

When Luna was last seen on “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” his character Robbie Reyes was pulled into another dimension along with his uncle Eli Morrow (José Zúñiga) and the Demon Core (a nuclear bomb intended to take out the city) was ready to explode. With any luck, Ghost Rider will leave the nuke in another dimension.

It hasn’t been announced if Zúñiga will return with Luna. TVLine, who broke the news, also reports that Yo-Yo (Natalia Cordova-Buckley) and General Talbot (Adrian Pasdar) will guest star in the final installment of Season 4.

When Robbie was first written out last year, executive producer Jed Whedon teased that Ghost Rider was still alive. However, he clearly wasn’t in a happy place.

“We don’t yet know exactly where it is, but the hints we got along the way are that when Mack was the Rider, the Rider says to Robbie, ‘I know where you’re going. I don’t want to go back there,’ so we get the sense that some of these otherworldly elements might be coming from this other place, wherever that may be,” Whedon told Entertainment Weekly in December. “In ‘Doctor Strange,’ they painted a Dark Dimension and other dimensions, so we don’t know exactly — or, at least, we haven’t said. But we do get the sense that things can come from there, things live there. He’s been dragged to that place, wherever that is. What happens to him there or where that goes is a ‘wait and see.’”

A lot has changed since Robbie last saw Daisy (Chloe Bennet) and the agents. The team is now in The Framework, an alternate reality Aida/Madame Hydra (Mallory Jansen) created using the Darkhold. Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) and Daisy are trying to find a way out, but it’s difficult to convince everyone else that they’re living in a fake world. Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) is still holding onto the idea that he’s a big wig at Hydra.

It isn’t clear if Robbie will return in the real world or The Framework. He certainly wouldn’t be the first lost character to have an avatar there. Ward (Brett Dalton), Trip (B.J. Britt) and Bakshi (Simon Kassianides) are all alive and well in the alternate reality. Unfortunately, the fake world can lead to real deaths. Jeffrey Mace/The Patriot (Jason O’Mara) died while saving kids from a Hydra facility in Season 4, episode 18. In the real world, Mace died too. Let’s hope Fitz comes to his senses before any other agents suffer the same fate.

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 4 airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC.
