Amber Heard — who recently confirmed her relationship to Tesla founder Elon Musk in April — was spotted grabbing lunch with her new boyfriend at Sweet Butter in Los Angeles this past weekend. Taking the actresses' past tumultuous relationship with Johnny Depp into consideration, it begs the question: Is this relationship legitimate or is she only after his money?

While it may still be too early to determine what this relationship means, a source confirmed to People, "It's definitely not a casual relationship. That’s not Elon. He doesn’t do anything casually."

From Heard's acting ventures within television and film, Celebrity Net Worth reported that the actress' net worth rests at $9 million. While her ex-husband Depp stood at a net worth of $200 million, she upgraded with Musk as her tech mogul beau is reported to have peaked billionaire status. Musk is worth $13.3 billion.

During the actress's widely publicized divorce battle to the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star, Heard was set to receive $7 million from the settlement. Although she had initially stated her interest in donating the settlement money towards two charitable organizations (e.g. American Civil Liberties Union for domestic violence and the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles), problems occurred when Depp made the decision to send the check directly to Heard's charities of choice, according to a 2016 report from Deadline.

When rumors had later circulated that the "Pineapple Express" star hadn't honored her declaration to donate to ACLU and the Children's Hospital, Pierce O’Donnell — Heard’s lawyer — issued a statement to TMZ in 2016, saying, "The settlement documents are being finalized and will be signed this week. Johnny is obligated by the settlement to pay Amber, and she, in turn, will honor her pledges to [the] Children's Hospital and the ACLU."

Problems occurred prior to this debacle when Depp went against the norm by sending the money directly to the charitable organization's of Heard's choice instead of to the actress herself. Considering the "Alice in Wonderland" star did donate an installment of the money his ex-wife requested directly to her desired charities, Deadline also noted in 2016 that his strange way of handling the matter may "indicate something else going on."

The divorce settlement buzz had initially simmered down but Heard refueled the drama in what Depp claims to be an "attempt to extend her fifteen minutes of fame," according to a 2016 report from E! Online. Prior to her relationship and eventual divorce from Depp, Heard's box office numbers for films in which she was the main character either generated little-to-no buzz (e.g. "Adderal Diaries") or flopped (e.g. "Syrup").

With the announcement of Heard's newfound romance with Musk, some skeptics have recently hopped on Twitter to compare it to her former relationship with Depp.

In mulling things over, fame wouldn't necessarily be motivation for the actress' decision to date Musk because she would generate more fame by linking with a more high-profile celebrity (e.g. an athlete, musician, or another A-list actor). However, in investigating their Instagram accounts, Musk does have a larger following than the actress with over 1 million followers compared to her mere 300,000-plus following.

Therefore, is it possible that Heard could be after Musk's fortune? At this time, it's still too soon to determine.

Although International Business Times reported in 2016 that the now couple had been "friends" for years, things have slowly shifted since then. Musk had reportedly been interested in Heard after seeing her in 2013.

As both parties were in the process of finalizing their divorces last year, speculation regarding the couple's relationship began to surface. The couple was seen separately in July 2016 at the Delano South Beach, a high-class hotel in Miami, Florida according to a separate 2016 report from People.

In April, the "Aquaman" star took the relationship public when she posted an Instagram photo of the couple, captioned "cheeky." Musk also posted the same picture, captioned, "Having moo moo at Moo Moo Gold Coast with @AmberHeard."

A month later, the actress followed up with another Instagram post. This time Musk's children were involved.

The actress shared a picture in May of her receiving a piggy-back ride from one of the tech mogul's sons during a visit to the Sydney Opera House. Heard captioned the three-photo Instagram slideshow by saying, "Kidding around."

The photos that followed within the slideshow include one of Musk's sons piling onto his back and another with Heard showing another one of his son's something on her cell phone.

Compared to her previous relationship with Depp, for the most part, Heard and Musk have kept things relatively low-profile. Therefore, she may not be money-hungry in this scenario as it appears that there could be a real bond between the two.
