Although Evan Peters has starred in the first eight seasons of the anthology series, the actor has said he will not be a part of the Season 9 cast. Meanwhile, Sarah Paulson, who also starred in every season since the premiere, will not have a lead role in the camp-themed season. The actress’ part has not been revealed, but she is not expected to have “a significant role” on “AHS: 1984.”

Plot

From the looks of the “AHS: 1984” trailer, Season 9 of the series will follow a group of young men and women, who will work at Camp Redwood for the summer. Unfortunately, an escaped mental patient, Mr. Jingles, will disrupt their fun by murdering the camp counselors. With a serial killer on the loose, characters played by Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Cody Fern, and other cast members will fight to stay alive, however, some of them won’t live to see the end of summer.

Although the trailer makes “American Horror Story” Season 9 look like a typical slasher story, FX Networks chairman John Landgraf told Deadline that Murphy’s latest creation will leave viewers surprised.

“Every year he comes up with something I’d never seen coming, and I never know what he is going to come up with,” he told the outlet.

“Literally, I don’t find out until he calls and says ‘OK, here is what we are going to do for the next cycle.’ And it always surprises me,” Landgraf added.

Theme

When viewers tune in to “American Horror Story: 1984, they will be taken back to the 80s for a summer of fitness and fun. However, the storyline will take a twisted turn and began to resemble classic 80s slasher films. Mr. Jingles will use his creativity and a few clichés from 1980s horror movies to kill the young counselors at Camp Redwood. One of the many things left to question is whether “AHS: 1984” will end like a typical 80s slasher flick, or will Murphy will leave fans speechless when the final episode of Season 9 airs?

“American Horror Story: 1984” will premiere Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 10 p.m. EDT on FX.
