Anthony Rapp recently exposed Kevin Spacey’s sexual advances at him as a teenager. Now, the actor is explaining why he decided to do so.

“I came forward with my story, standing on the shoulders of the many courageous women and men who have been speaking out, to shine a light and hopefully make a difference, as they have done for me,” he told People.

BuzzFeed published an article on Sunday detailing Rapp’s version of the story. “Everything I wanted to say was in that article, and I have no further comment about it this time,” the 46-year-old Broadway actor said.

In the article, Rapp revealed that a 26-year-old Spacey invited him to his Manhattan apartment with a bunch of much older people. He ended up staying in a room watching TV and realized that everyone had already left. But when he tried to leave, Spacey prevented him from doing so.

“My impression when he came in the room was that he was drunk… He picked me up like a groom picks up the bride over the threshold. But I don’t, like, squirm away initially, because I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ And then he lays down on top of me. He was trying to seduce me. I don’t know if I would have used that language. But I was aware that he was trying to get with me sexually,” he said.

After the article was published, Spacey said that he has no memory of the incident, but apologized for it. On the same day, he also came out as a gay man.

“As those closest to me know, I have had relationships with both men and women. I have loved and had romantic relationships with men throughout my life, and I choose now to live as a gay man. I want to deal with this honestly and openly and that starts with examining my own behavior,” Spacey said in a statement.

In 2001, Rapp already shared the story of being sexually exploited by a much older male actor. However, he did not drop any names at that time. He explained on Twitter that he finally named him after several years because he was inspired by those who came forward about Harvey Weinstein’s misconducts.
