BUENOS AIRES: In a major setback to Paraguay s energy need, Argentina on Saturday decided to cut down gas shipment to Paraguay due to the increase of the country's export taxes.

Reacting to the latest development, Paraguay's Gas Chamber (Capagas) said, For April we had a 75 U.S. dollar increase per ton, and 50 percent of the increase was exclusively triggered by the tax factor.

The decrease of gas shipment was verified by many enterprises operating in the gas sector. The tax increase caused export gas prices to rise by 25 to 40 percent.

Capagas, however assured that consumers would not suffer a lack of gas supplies in April despite the price hike.
