KEY POINTS

  • The show comes after the success of "Back-Sync" in a Bingo show last month
  • The collaboration had been in the works since 2019
  • Some surprise musicians may also perform at "The After Party"

Boyz II Men’s Wanya Morris, *NSYNC’s Joey Fatone and Backstreet Boys members AJ McLean and Nick Carter are teaming up for a show at the Sands Showroom’s “The After Party” in Las Vegas next month.

However, the grand event comes with a twist as the boyband members will sing and dance to one another's hits accompanied by a live band at the Venetian Resort from Aug. 19 to 22.

“We wanted to do something with the idea of the Rat Pack meets the Pop age now — different artists coming together and doing a show that’s fun, but also takes you through a bit of history. But it organically also turned into more of a celebration of our bands and a homage to pop culture,” *NSYNC’s Joey Fatone told Variety.

“You’re going to see these guys and these groups in a light you’ve never seen them in before,” Fatone told the outlet.

The show comes at the heels of the two-hour “Bingo Under the Stars” hosted by *NSYNC's Lance Bass, Fatone and Backstreet Boys' Carter and McLean last month in support of Pride and the LGBTQIA+ community where the boys dubbed themselves “Back-Sync.”

The performers donated $1 million to The Trevor Project on behalf of Mission Tsuki. They also talked about the possibility of a follow-up, given the show’s success.

"I said that we're, you know, maybe cooking something up...There's been a lot of positive feedback from the fans," McLean told Entertainment Tonight. "Look, a lot of fans for the last almost 30 years have wanted to see this happen in any level, whether it's all 10 of us or four of us, whatever that is. And now that it's happening, even if it's just one time, I don't know, this may not be just a one-off.”

Earlier, Carter had said he could not have imagined such collaborations with other boybands in the early 2000s due to intense fan rivalry and various other reasons.

“Twenty years ago? Hell no!” he was quoted by Variety, as saying. “I’m kidding, because I still don’t understand why we didn’t get an opportunity to do more things together, but we learned that it was managers and stuff happening behind the scenes that prevented it. Better late than never, right?”

Fatone also revealed that the Vegas show was already in the works even before "Back-Sync" happened due to the successful turnout of his 2019 concert “Joey Fatone and Friends” at the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival. The concert also featured Boyz II Men’s Nathan Morris, Ryan Cabrera and *NSYNC founding member Chris Kirkpatrick.

Fatone said Bass could not be part of the lineup of the Vegas show due to prior commitments. However, his bandmate could still show up as a surprise guest along with other musicians, Fatone hinted.

“There’ll be a bunch of guests coming in and out, which is how it has the feel of the Rat Pack. People can just show up and do a song,” he told Variety.
