Bates Motel
Norman (Freddie Highmore) will talk about some of his issues regarding Norma (Vera Farmiga) while institutionalized at Pineview in episode 3 of "Bates Motel" Season 4. A&E/ Cate Cameron

“Bates Motel” Season 4 has been an emotional rollercoaster so far, and episode 3 will be no different. A sneak peek video of the upcoming installment, titled “Til Death Do You Part,” teases that Norman (Freddie Highmore) will have a breakdown after being admitted to Pineview mental institution.

The trailer for Monday’s episode shows Norman inside his new room at the facility. A nurse wants to show him around for orientation, but Norman’s distraught over having his belt removed. The nurse tells him that it’s “safer” without anyone wearing belts — a statement that fans of the A&E “Pscyho” prequel series know as far too true.

After showing him around and laying out some rules, Norman questions how long he’ll be at the facility. But unfortunately for him, that’s not an answer that the nurse can give. His stay at Pineview depends on Dr. Gregg Edwards (Damon Gupton).

“You just have to trust your doctor,” she encourages him.

Of course, Norman doesn’t trust Dr. Edwards. He tells the good doc that he doesn’t understand how someone else could truly understand what’s going on inside his head. But as Dr. Edwards points out, Norman committed himself to the facility.

“You know that I am only here because of my mother,” Norman says, adding that Norma (Vera Farmiga) would be upset if he didn’t sign the papers.

And that’s where things start to unravel for the teen. Dr. Edwards starts to fit the pieces together, realizing that Norman doesn’t like upsetting his mother.

The emotional breakdown is not the only thing that “Bates Motel” viewers can look forward to in episode 3. A promo video for Monday’s installment reveals that Norma and Romero (Nestor Carbonell) will tie the knot at town hall. Norma wanted to marry Romero so that she could use his health insurance to get Norman help — but it appears as if she didn’t think the marriage through. She looks shocked when Romero tells her that he’ll be by the house later with his things.

“Bates Motel” Season 4, episode 3 will air on A&E on Monday, March 21 at 9 p.m. EDT.
