The road to E3 2019 has already been dominated with rumors of hardware announcements and teases of growing cross-platform capabilities. However, we can’t forget the biggest reason to tune in to one of the biggest games expos of the year: video games.

Whether it was “Grand Theft Auto IV” coming to Xbox 360 or whatever Konami’s E3 2010 press conference was, the expo lives and dies on the games that are on display. And with E3 2019 right around the corner, these are some of the games we hope to see at this year’s show.

A New Batman Game

Ever since the release of 2015’s “Batman: Arkham Knight,” rumors have run rampant about the possibility of another game set in the universe of DC’s Dark Knight. Early rumors had pointed to a possible prequel that would have Batman set on a collision course with the Suicide Squad following the events of “Batman: Arkham Origins.” Other rumors have pointed to Batman working with Robin to battle the notorious Court of Owls, both coming from WB Montreal. But with Rocksteady moving on from the Caped Crusader, if a new game is unveiled, it represents a fresh start for the hero in gaming.

Rocksteady’s Latest Game

While the studio kissed Batman goodbye, Rocksteady’s next possible game may not be departing far from the DC universe. Original rumors pointed to the studio taking its crack at Superman, who has proven to be one of the harder heroes to bring to gaming. While the studio said it wasn’t working on one ahead of the 2018 Game Awards, misdirects are not uncommon and it’s still possible that Supes could be heading to Xbox and PlayStation. But regardless of what they could unveil, a new Rocksteady game would be sure to garner attention.

Square Enix’s Avengers Game

Not straying too far from the superhero space, there is Square Enix’s long-gestating Avengers game. Originally announced in 2017, there had been little to no news about what the Japanese publisher was cooking up with “Tomb Raider” developer Crystal Dynamics. Thankfully, the latest reports seem to indicate that the game will finally be unveiled at E3 for the world to see. If true, the next question will be when can gamers finally get their hands on it.

“Resident Evil 3: Nemesis” Remake

On the heels of the “Resident Evil 2” Remake’s success earlier this year, a remake of “Resident Evil 3” seems like a no-brainer for Capcom. The question then becomes if it would just be an announcement trailer or if they actually have gameplay ready to show to the public. Given the framework set up in the “Resident Evil 2” remake, it wouldn’t be that hard to turn a game around in quicker than people suspect. In either case, “Resident Evil” fans would be pleased with this announcement.

Whatever Rockstar Wants to Unveil

If any studio has earned a cart-Blanche approach to E3, it’s Rockstar. The studio behind “Grand Theft Auto” and “Red Dead Redemption” is notoriously secretive with its games, rarely coming to E3 anymore. So if that Rockstar logo comes up during one of the press conferences, it’s definitely a big deal. And there have been plenty of rumors around what their next game could be. Rumors have pointed to “Bully 2” or “GTA 6” most frequently, but who’s to say that another “Max Payne” or “Noire” game couldn’t be in the works.

“Ghost of Tsushima”

First announced in 2017, Sony has been coy with unveiling too much of Sucker Punch’s follow-up to the PS4 launch game, “Infamous: Second Son.” Sony finally offered a proper look at gameplay at E3 2018, showing off Sucker Punch’s vision of Feudal Japan that has been invaded by the Mongols. Since then, Sony went back into lockdown when it came to news, though that could all change at E3.

“Halo: Infinite”

Anytime a new entry in the “Halo” series is in the works, fans can be sure that it will be a centerpiece of Microsoft’s E3 presentation. The announcement trailer at E3 2018 revealed the series would be heading back to the Halo rings as Master Chief looks for a means to stop Cortana’s takeover of the galaxy. From what has come out about the game, 343 Studios is trying to meld the best of their games with the best of the original Bungie games. And where better to show off the fruits of their labor than at the beginning or end of Microsoft’s E3 press conference.
