Will romance develop between Liz and Ressler in Season 2 of "The Blacklist?" NBC

“The Blacklist” will return to NBC on Sept. 22, and fans have many questions going into Season 2 of the crime thriller. NBC recently released a series of promo videos, one of which addresses the biggest question on fans’ minds: Is Red Liz’s father? But the Red-Liz relationship is not the only one to raise curiosity.

New spoilers for Season 2 address the other couple on fans’ minds, Liz and Ressler. The FBI agent has been a major character since the first episode and has gotten to spend a lot of time with Liz over the course of the manhunts and kidnappings that unfolded over Season 1. The characters’ chemistry throughout the show has fans wondering if the two will become more than work associates in Season 2.

Should viewers expect romance? Executive Producer John Eisendrath says no, telling TV Guide the show will spend more time developing the character first. But he does not rule out the possibility for love to blossom down the road.

“In doing that, [we'll] put him in emotionally vulnerable places," Eisendrath said. "By putting him in those positions, it will give Liz an opportunity to reach out to him and support him in a way that will deepen their relationship." So, fans hoping for sparks to fly will have to have patience as the two characters grow closer.

One thing is for sure, the two will not have to time for a romantic night out in Season 2, as Red promises to be back in action in the new episodes, giving Liz and Ressler plenty to deal with for now. Then there’s Berlin, who escaped in the Season 1 finale after Liz thought she had killed him. Fans will have to wait to see what happens when “The Blacklist” returns on Sept. 22.
