‘Blindspot’
How will FBI Director Eleanor Hirst’s (Mary Stuart Masterson) return affect Jane (Jaimie Alexander) and Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) in “Blindspot” Season 3? NBC

“Blindspot” Season 3 will see the return of FBI Director Eleanor Hirst (Mary Stuart Masterson) in its upcoming episodes.

Executive producer Martin Gero confirmed the news to Entertainment Weekly on Thursday. “We’re so happy to have Mary Stuart Masterson back and to finally have a supportive FBI Director around,” he said.

Hirst assumed the role of FBI director after the murder of former FBI Director Sam Pellington. In the previous season, Sam paid Jane Doe (Jaimie Alexander) and Kurt Weller’s (Sullivan Stapleton) team a visit and informed them that he will be shutting down the Jane Doe project. This didn’t sit well with the group so they automatically saw Sam as an enemy.

Following his death, Hirst took over his position, and she brought two NASA experts to help Patterson (Ashley Johnson) stop Shepherd’s (Michelle Hurd) attack. She also gave Jane the opportunity to live a life away from the FBI. This means that Hirst was a positive force of nature in the lives of Jane, Weller and the rest of their team members.

Unfortunately, it is still unclear how Hirst’s return will be written into the hit NBC TV series. What is only known is that she will be recurring in multiple episodes.

Meanwhile, a new official poster for “Blindspot” Season 3 has just been released, and it’s very different from the previous ones released before. This year’s photo features a close up image of Weller and Jane standing close to each other. Jane’s tattoos are highlighted by a combination of blue and pink colors. On the poster are the words, “A new body of clues. A new threat uncovered,” are written.

Another version of the poster also reveals that Weller’s name and the word “FBI” are written on Jane’s back. They also happen to be the biggest tattoos found on the lead character’s body. The connection between Jane, Weller and the FBI will be explored further in “Blindspot” Season 3.

But beyond their professional connection, the premiere episode will also be a very satisfying one for fans because it will reveal new details about Jane and Weller’s romantic relationship.

“Blindspot” Season 3 will premiere on NBC on Oct. 27 at 8 p.m. EDT.
