Six updates have been announced for "World of Warcraft: Dragonflight" spread throughout 2023 for players to experience new content and events.

"World of Warcraft" executive producer Holly Longdale published a blog post on Wednesday on Blizzard Entertainment's forum explaining the 2023 roadmap. Two of the updates are major ones that will include new seasonal rewards, new zones and new raids. Four other updates will focus on minor aspects of the game such as updates to older systems, adding more story content and creating more feedback opportunities for players.

Longdale said "World of Warcraft" updates have been too infrequent in the past, something developers want to change with "Dragonflight."

"In planning out the road ahead following the release of Dragonflight, we've been mindful of the duty we owe our players to nurture this living world and, frankly, the need to do better than we have at times in the recent past," wrote Longdale. "Our goal for Dragonflight is that there should always be something right around the corner, with a new update hitting our test realms shortly after the last one is live and in your hands."

Longdale added that "the goal is simply more Warcraft: more story, more content, more rewards, more events, more tech improvements, with less downtime between them," something that seems exciting for the "World of Warcraft" community since Chris Metzen has returned to work on the IP. Metzen is one of the fathers of "World of Warcraft" and has rejoined the team as creative advisor.

The first two updates are scheduled for winter and spring. The winter patch will bring the Trading Post system to the MMORPG for players to "earn a wide range of fun cosmetic rewards of their choice" and there will be some new world content with the Primalist Tomorrow area. The spring patch will see new campaign, evergreen content and human and Orc cosmetic Heritage Armor. There'll also be holiday updates and players can return to the Forbidden Reach.

After these updates is the Season 2 patch. That's the first of the big updates. It brings a new zone, raids, a new PvP season and new mythic and dungeon pools. There are going to be professional updates for players as well as user interface improvements made.

The summer and fall patches contain content, system updates and new quests for players to jump into. The last update on the calendar is the Season 3 patch which will be similar to Season 2 with the difference that additional content will be added instead of user interface improvements.

Longdale wrote that she didn't "want to spoil everything," but she's "confident that there are at least a couple of surprises coming along the way that no one is expecting."
