An Iowa jewelry store is giving new meaning to the term “shogun wedding:” Buy an engagement ring at Jewelry by Harold worth at least $1,999, and you get a voucher for a free gun.

“Diamonds are a girl's best friend," Harold van Beek, owner of Jewelry by Harold in North Liberty, Iowa, told KCRG in Cedar Rapids. "So say: I'm hunting deer, and here is a diamond ring, dear."

The buy-a-ring-get-a-free-gun deal lasts until Oct. 31 and has some restrictions. You must be eligible to own a gun in Iowa, so convicted felons and drug addicts are out of luck.

Van Beek said he was inspired to run the bizarre promotion after a similar offer was advertised in Georgia.

"We hope people know about the crazy jeweler in North Liberty that does crazy things," he told KCRG. "Fun is more important than anything else, we try to put some fun in it. Hunting season is coming up, I thought this is cool, so let's do something for the boy who doesn't like to hunt for diamonds, but likes to hunt for deer."

Customers who buy an engagement ring priced at $1,999 and higher will receive a voucher for a Remington 870 hunting rifle. The voucher can be redeemed only at Fin and Feather in Iowa City.

The shotgun usually can be bought for less than $500 and is popular with military and police organizations, according to Yahoo News. The U.S. military and other federal institutions have purchased Remington 870s, including the IRS and the U.S. Department of Education.
