• The threat of terrorism on national soil is imminent and has been addressed by local police
  • Officials noted that the videos were "distressing"
  • Steven Homoki is currently awaiting trial for the threats

A California man was arrested by authorities after uploading videos on YouTube where he appeared to be preparing for an act of terrorism.

The San Diego Police Department said in a statement that Steven Homoki was taken into custody Thursday on suspicion of possession of an assault weapon, possession of a high capacity magazine and child endangerment, according to NBC News.

Homoki's arrest came after the San Diego Joint Terrorism Task Force received an anonymous tip Monday on “very distressing YouTube videos threatening firearm violence inked to San Diego,” said Lieutenant Shawn Takeuchi.

The videos, which were posted in September, showed a man who was apparently practicing to execute a mass shooting inside a hotel room in San Diego.

The man also pointed assault weapons at random pedestrians from the hotel room's window, pointed ABC 7.

After launching an investigation, agents and officers of the Task Force identified the 30-year-old Homoki as the man in the videos. He was later served with a search warrant at his home in Spring Valley where 14 registered firearms were seized by law enforcers.

ABC 10 News, which was able to obtain a copy of the search warrant, reported that Homoki allegedly booked a hotel room at the Sofia Hotel and used it to practice “aiming the weapon.”

The videos, on the other hand, were recording using a body-worn camera. It also depicted two assault rifles on the couch, a female mannequin head, a Department of Homeland Security license plate, an envelope and scattered ammunition.

The first video was uploaded on September 17, while the second was posted the day after under a “Steven Anderson” YouTube channel, it added.

Homoki is being held on a $20,000 bail and is scheduled to appear before the San Diego Superior Court Monday afternoon.
