A man in Irvine, California, was arrested Sunday (April 12) for kicking a dog down a flight of stairs.

In an Instagram post, the Irvine Police Department said a witness alerted them after seeing the accused, identified as 22-year-old Ruiang Zhang, “repeatedly kicking a five-month-old French bulldog puppy, ultimately kicking the female puppy down a flight of stairs at an apartment complex off Bowery in Irvine. ”

The accused, who shared the puppy with his live-in girlfriend, was taken into custody on felony animal abuse charges. He was held at Orange County Jail. “This case will be referred to the Orange County District Attorney’s office for prosecution,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, the canine was rushed to a local veterinarian. It was revealed that the puppy “sustained multiple broken bones in her legs and will remain in the care of the veterinarian until further notice. ”

“If anyone has any information related to this investigation, please contact Detective Larum at 949-724-7194,” the statement said. Investigation into the case was ongoing.

Several Instagram users commented on the post, thanking the police department for rescuing the canine.

“This makes me so upset. Thank you so much for rescuing this puppy,” a user commented. “Sick, sick, sick person! Thank you IPD for rescuing this poor baby! ” another user wrote.

“This guy got what he deserved! I hope this little guy has a speedy recovery,” another person commented.

The incident comes days after an Ohio woman was arrested for abusing her pet dog. Butler County Dog Wardens responded to a home after receiving reports saying a woman was body-slamming her dog and punching it viciously until the canine lost consciousness. The responding wardens seized the dog. The woman, identified as 32-year-old Gabrielle Johnson, was arrested from her home and charged with cruelty to a companion animal.

“Companion animals are just that, companions. You do not mistreat or abuse them and if you do, you will face a judge. It won’t be tolerated,” Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones had said.
