  • Activision launched "Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War" in November 2020
  • New details about the next "Call of Duty" title were leaked recently
  • Sledgehammer Games will reportedly handle the game

The latest installment of the popular "Call of Duty" series is just a couple of months old, but rumors about the next game are already rife. It was speculated earlier that "Call of Duty 2021" will be feature World War 3 and will serve as a sequel to "Advanced Warfare." A new piece of information about the upcoming title is leaked online revealing the developer of the game.

Industry insider Tom Henderson said that Sledgehammer Games is in-charge of "Call of Duty 2021." On Twitter, Henderson uploaded an image showing the development timeline of the previous "Call of Duty" titles. He added that the title, which will arrive later this year, will be handled by Sledgehammer Games.

Additionally, the image revealed that "Call of Duty 2021" has been under development since 2019. The latest leak seemingly aligns with the previous rumor about the theme of this year's "Call of Duty" installment. The rumor was started by Modern Warzone, who claimed that the game would be about World War 3.

Sledgehammer Games worked on its own titles from 2012 to 2017. During this period, "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" and "Call of Duty: WWII" were launched. Since then, the studio stepped down into an assisting role and helped in the development of "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" and "Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War."

In a video, Henderson claimed that the next title would most likely be "Advanced Warfare 2" or a "WWII" sequel. A few months back, Henderson said "Call of Duty 2021" might be the sequel to the 2019 installment, titled "Modern Warfare." Rumors about Sledgehammer Games handling the next "CoD" title were strengthened after a tweet from the gaming studio itself, which talked about "trying again."

Activision has not yet revealed any details about "Call of Duty 2021." While these leaks and rumors may be exciting, fans should temper their expectations since they are unconfirmed and unofficial and hence, should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Meanwhile, "Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War" is now available. The game is playable on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PS5.
