Call Of Duty: WW2 leaked concept art sent shockwaves through the industry late last month, and we may know even more about the game today. Reddit user Tinnothy recently shared a blurry box image, and now there’s an even clearer view of it making the rounds on Twitter. Is this a social media hoax or a sneak peek at what’s to come?

The story goes that Tinnothy just so happened to be walking around Activision HQ when he snapped the photo below. It’s admittedly hard to tell precisely what the image contains, but the text Call Of Duty: WW2 is clearly legible from a distance.

Activision HQ, took a photo tried not to make myself obvious sorry for bad quality.

When fans blew the photo up, they decided that it may compare favorably to a piece of concept art from the original leak. In it, we see a soldier’s back with squadmates marching in front. That discovery was quickly followed up by a post from Twitter’s Juan Michou. In this case, we see the same base image on a shrink-wrapped PS4 box with faded objects in the character’s field of view.

COD WWII Leaked apparently

Both supposed leaks draw on each other in sensible ways, but there’s plenty of reason to question their validity. For one, a basic rule of browsing the internet is to never trust blurry images. This provision is especially true on April Fools’ Day, the day the obscured photo first went live. Also, it simply doesn’t make sense that a wrapped PS4 box already exists for a game that’s likely to release this fall. The image looks nice, but it also comes from a Twitter egg with only 21 followers.

We personally don’t think this particular Call Of Duty: WW2 leak is real, but we also want to keep our readers apprised of the situation in case we’re wrong. Esteemed Call Of Duty fan site charlieINTEL took a similar stance.

If we had to guess, we imagine internet trolls essentially leveraged previous leaks to create a product that looks believable. Remember that fake oval-shaped Switch controller that mirrored previously seen Nintendo patent designs? This new art evokes similar situation. It seemingly repurposes the concept sketches we believe to be real to create a fabrication.

Call Of Duty: WW2 has not been officially announced, but it’s assumed to release this fall on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
