Camilla Parker Bowles endured harsh criticisms due to her affair with Prince Charles.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall didn’t have a smooth start when they decided to rekindle their romance while he was still married to Princess Diana. The late Princess of Wales said in her infamous interview that her marriage to Prince Charles didn’t work out because “there were three of us,” implying that Prince Charles was having an affair with Camilla.

According to Jessica Jayne in her book “Prince Charles Biography: The Life of the Prince of Wales and Future King of England,” the public was outraged when his marriage with Princess Diana collapsed. As a result, his new love, Camilla, was attacked by the press and was criticized heavily. Some even pointed out her “bad teeth” and “dandruff.”

“The public was soon angry at Charles for ditching Diana for someone who had bad teeth from smoking and hair dandruff,” Jayne wrote. “Camilla, who was not pretty and was a year older than Charles, was seen as the home-wrecker and was constantly harassed by the press for her role in the failure of the royal marriage.”

Royal experts believed that the people’s harsh reaction toward Prince Charles and Camilla’s affair was the reason she wasn’t called “princess.” Camilla, being the wife of the Prince of Wales, was entitled to be the new Princess of Wales. However, she declined to use the said title.

Marlene Koenig said that Camilla was not as popular or well-liked as Princess Diana at the time. However, a lot has changed for the Duchess of Cornwall at present. She has taken on a lot of patronages and she made Prince Charles happier. In fact, even Queen Elizabeth II recognized Camilla on Prince Charles’ 70th birthday. The monarch pointed out how the duchess sustained the heir to become his own man, who is passionate and creative.

Initially, the palace announced that Camilla will only be princess consort when Prince Charles becomes king. However, royal experts believe that she will be queen.

Royal author Robert Jobson is convinced that Camilla will reflect Prince Charles’ title when he takes over the throne. She’s now popular and she has her own causes. Also, he felt that the people are already warm to Camilla and are ready to accept her as their new queen.
