Conservative commentator Candace Owens suggested last week that the U.S. military should invade Australia due to their COVID-related restrictions.

Owens called the Australian government’s handling of the pandemic “totalitarian” and suggested the U.S. should deploy its military in order to free its “oppressed” people.

Most Australians support the vaccine requirements, according to the Guardian.

“When do we deploy? Of course, I ask that in jest because we all know the real answer. What is happening in Australia under the guise of a virus … is federal overreach, tyranny, totalitarianism – the kind that gives birth to evil dictatorships and human atrocities,” Owens said.

Owens called the Australian government a “police state” adding their citizens are “being imprisoned against their will” asking her audience if the Australian government is “any better or any nobler than the Taliban,” adding “both groups believe they have a right to oppress and a right to imprison people for their own good.”

Owens also likened the Australian government to Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Fidel Castro, and Hugo Chavez.

Australia has had 130,000 cases with just 1,448 deaths compared to America’s staggering 45.3 million cases and 773,000 deaths. Damien Cave of the New York Times interviewed Australians asking them if the COVID-19 restrictions were worth it to keep the public safe, their answer was generally the same “Yes, it is worth it,” or “Yes, we believe it will be.”

Owens ended her segment by blasting the Biden administration as “totalitarian” and thanked Republican governors for “standing in the way” to “protect our most basic individual freedoms” and prevent America from adopting policies similar to Australia.

Out of the top 20 states with the most COVID-19 cases, Trump won 17 of them in the election and 15 of those states have Republican governors.
