We don’t know which NBA Finals team -- the defending champs Golden State Warriors or the upstart Toronto Raptors -- Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. is rooting for, but fans of both finalists stand to be winners from Chipotle’s upcoming promo that begins when the Finals start May 30 in Toronto.

The California-based tacos and Mission-style burritos restaurant chain will give away $1 million-worth of free burritos until the Finals end and this season’s NBA champion is crowned.

Chipotle said it will be “freeting” (a word play on tweeting) to celebrate its nationwide free delivery offer.

The promo works this way. During the first 20 mentions by on-air announcers, color commentators, or sideline reporters of the word “free,”@Chipotletweets will live tweet a unique code that can be redeemed for a free burrito (or any regularly-priced entrée). The promo applies to all orders $10 or more via the Chipotle app, site, and through DoorDash.

Chipotle explained what it means by the word “free.”

“Free throws. Free agent. Cutting away to get free. All of this means free burritos… Every time an on-air announcer says the word ‘free’ during the official coverage of the men’s professional basketball championship series, Chipotle will be ‘freeting’: live Tweeting a unique code good for the chance to score a free burrito from @chipotletweets.”

But viewers have got to do a few things first to be eligible for the promo. First follow @chipotletweets and listen to the announcers during the finals games.

Head to Twitter once you hear the word “Free” to find a code in Chipotle's latest tweet. Text 888222 to receive instructions for burrito redemption. Chipotle will also provide free delivery throughout the series. Chipotle will continue the promo until $1 million worth of burritos have been tweeted away!

The free burritos schedule: every day from May 30 (Thursday) to Sunday (June 9); Monday (June 10); Thursday (June 13) and Sunday (June 16) for a Game 7, if necessary.

The codes will only be valid for the first 500 mobile users who text the number 888222 during the first half of the games. An additional 1,000 respondents will be eligible during the second half.
