KEY POINTS

  • There is a pretty substantial difference in weights of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S
  • At 9.8 pounds, the Xbox Series X still comes out lighter than the original PlayStation 3
  • The contents of the boxes for each console were also revealed although there were no big surprises

When the Xbox Series X was first revealed, many noted how it resembled a clunky PC tower instead of a traditional console. Now that it is two months away from launch, a few more details on the unit have been revealed including its weight.

The updated landing pages on Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S have revealed close to a six-pound difference between the two next-gen consoles, GameSpot notes.

Despite its tall, blocky stature, editor Michael Higham of GameSpot noted that the Xbox Series X was not as bulky as he initially thought it would be based on the mock-ups that Microsoft sent. The Xbox Series X weighs 9.8 pounds which is still lighter than the 11.02-pound weight of the original PlayStation 3.

Meanwhile, the Xbox Series S is significantly lighter at just 4.25 pounds. For comparison purposes, although Sony has not yet revealed how much the PlayStation 5 will weigh, their next-gen console is estimated to weigh in at 10.54 pounds.

Current- And Next-Gen Weight Comparison

  • Xbox Series S: 4.25 lbs
  • Xbox Series X: 9.8 lbs
  • Xbox One: 7.8 lbs
  • Xbox One S: 6.4 lbs
  • Xbox One X: 8.4 lbs
  • OG PlayStation 4: 6.2 lbs
  • PlayStation 4 Slim: 4.6 lbs

Some interesting information on the landing pages surrounds the number of HDMI and USB ports for the two Microsoft consoles. According to the Series S site, the system has one HDMI 2.1 port and three USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports.

Meanwhile, on the Xbox Series X site, an error is present. It suggests the system has no USB ports and three HDMI 3.1 Gen 1 ports, when in fact the mock-up featured the same number of ports as the Xbox Series S.

The contents of the boxes of each console have also been revealed. Nothing overly shocking is mentioned, just the exact components you need to get the system setup.
