  • A short teaser for "Cyberpunk 2077" debuted during Game 1 of the NBA Finals
  • Keanu Reeves appeared as himself in the teaser though he is voicing one character
  • The teaser sets the tone for the game, with its focus on cybernetics and a dystopian future

Game 1 of the NBA Finals featured more than just the excellent performance of the Los Angeles Lakers — it also showed the newest teaser for “Cyberpunk 2077.”

The game developed and published by CD Projekt Red is one of the remaining big games that have yet to debut this year, but it will finally be released this November on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows. A big reason why many are intrigued by “Cyberpunk 2077” is the involvement of Keanu Reeves, and he was front and center in this teaser.

The teaser was spotted by Geoff Keighley, executive producer and host of The Game Awards, during the NBA Finals match between the Lakers and Miami Heat. He promptly shared it on Twitter.

In the teaser, Keanu looks more like John Wick than Johnny Silverhand, the character he’ll be playing in the game, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. With Billie Eilish’s monster hit “Bad Guy” blaring, fans get a glimpse at what the world looks like in the world of “2077.”

“In 2077, what makes someone a criminal?” Reeves asks. “Getting caught.”

This is interspersed with some rapid-fire animation that is possibly from cutscenes or from the game’s intro. The dark, futuristic tone of “Cyberpunk 2077” is established here to entice gamers to give it a shot next month.

“In Night City, you can become anyone, anything, if your body can pay the price,” the narration continues as humans getting cyber-enhanced limbs and other body parts appear.

The teaser concludes with Reeves saying, “So seize the day… then set it on fire.” He then shuts the door from inside a car as the logo for “Cyberpunk 2077” appears alongside its release date, Nov. 19.

Anticipation for “Cyberpunk 2077” has been high since it was first reported to be in development in 2018 partly due to the success of CD Projekt Red’s most recent game, “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.” Unlike that game, though, “Cyberpunk 2077” is set in a strange future and will have a first-person perspective.

A few weeks ago, CD Projekt Red said that despite its visuals and graphics, “Cyberpunk 2077” will not require a huge amount of hard disk drive space when purchased.

“Cyberpunk 2077” will also be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in 2021.
