A man in Arizona was taken into custody after he allegedly stepped on his 1-month-old daughter’s head and bit her in the abdominal area while he was high on acid.

The probable cause statement stated the man, identified as 20-year-old Triston Sanders, placed the infant unsupervised on a five-foot-high table, which resulted in the baby falling on the floor, AZ Family reported.

The accused then stepped on the baby’s head and bit her in the abdominal area. The incident took place at his home in Maricopa County on Wednesday.

A person who was present at the home alerted the police, who responded to the scene and rushed the baby to a nearby hospital with several injuries. The identity of the person who alerted the police remains unclear.

The doctors conducted scans that revealed the infant had a fractured skull fracture and a brain hemorrhage along with broken blood vessels in her left eye. She also had a bump on one side of her head, AZ Family reported.

The accused was detained for questioning during which he confessed to leaving the baby unattended on the table as well as stepping on her head. He also admitted to being high on acid when the incident took place, AZCentral reported.

Following the confession, he was taken into custody and charged with three counts of child abuse. He remained in jail as of Thursday on a $10,000 bond. The accused was scheduled to appear in court on April 8.

The infant remained in the hospital. However, her condition was not known. Details regarding her mother were also not known.

In a similar incident, a man in Louisiana was arrested earlier this week in connection with his girlfriend’s toddler daughter’s death. The police arrived at home and found the toddler unresponsive with several bruises on her body. She was rushed to the hospital where she was declared dead. An autopsy concluded she died from multiple blunt force injuries. The 1-year-old girl’s mother’s boyfriend, identified as 34-year-old Jonathan Dunn, who was looking after the toddler, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and second-degree cruelty to a juvenile.
