“Daytime Divas” showrunners Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler are hoping that VH1 will renew the comedy-drama series for Season 2.

When asked if they’ve already heard anything about a potential sophomore run from the network, Alberghini told TVLine that “it’s still being discussed.” He then acknowledged that “there are big fans of the show” so they are just hoping for the best.

Chessler added that the cliffhanger at the end of the Season 1 finale was a deliberate attempt to leave viewers wanting for more. “We wanted to end on a big cliffhanger!” he said. “It’s a fun, soapy show, and we’re obviously hoping there will be another season. Otherwise, we’re stuck on the cliff!”

“Daytime Divas” stars Vanessa Williams and Fiona Gubelmann — who play Maxine Robinson and Heather Flynn-Kellogg in the series — have also expressed their desire for a Season 2. While live-tweeting last night’s Season 1 finale, Williams and Gubelmann told their fans to let VH1 know if they want another season of the series.

In an interview with Huffington Post last month, Camille Guaty revealed that she enjoyed filming the series so much that she’s hoping the show gets renewed for a second season. “I have had so much fun working on this project so I hope we come back for a Season 2,” said the actress who plays Nina Sandoval on the show.

If the series gets picked up for Season 2, it looks like fans are going to see Maxine’s stint in jail. “Maxine’s a very dominant and controlling presence. She’s also very resourceful, and I think it’d be interesting to see a woman like that in prison, where her resources and access and influences are limited — at least initially,” Alberghini said. “It’d be fun to see what she could make out of that situation. Not that we’re basing her on this, but I’d love to see how Martha Stewart’s first few days were.”

Alberghini added that they also plan to further explore Maxine’s relationship with her son Shawn (McKinley Freeman) going forward. “We’re all very interested in Shawn and Maxine’s relationship. I’m interested in showing the complexity of it,” the exec producer said. “What other secrets do they have? What else has one covered up for the other? Mother-son relationships can be just as complicated as mother-daughter relationships, so we’d like to explore that more.”
