Dennis Basso is an icon in the fashion world, from humble beginnings, who presented his first collection in 1983. After more than 30 years in fashion, Basso has no intention of slowing down as he presented his glamorous collection for fall 2014 at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York.

Inspired by great American contemporary artists, Basso presented an elaborate collection full of fur, sequins and hand-painted gowns. The rich jewel palate was dominated by hues of deep purple, sapphire, emerald and amethyst to create a regal looking collection.

Bodices were balanced by voluminous skirts, slim leg trousers, straight skirts and gowns: Floor-length dramatic ball gowns with volume added drama to the show, and it will be no surprise if we see one of these show-stoppers on the red carpet soon.

Backstage Basso was excited about the collection, which encompassed his love of theatrics and drama. He was able to share his thoughts on the changing face of New York Fashion Week. While a lot of designers now going offsite, and guest lists are becoming tighter, Basso stated he does not want to leave the tents.

Although his collection is anything but subtle, when asked what the one thing people didn’t know about him as a designer was, he stated that he was “shy.” There was nothing shy about this luxurious collection that kept the woman who wants to stand out firmly in mind.
