Donald Trump has a well-documented pattern of making unfounded claims. On Saturday, the former president told a Michigan audience that he had won the state's “Man of the Year” award, though no such award exists.

At the rally in Washington Township, Trump went so far as to explain the whole story that goes along with the award.

"I was named a long time ago, I was named — did you know this? — a long time. I don't know, your chamber of commerce, somebody, who the hell knows what it is? They named me the Man of the Year in Michigan," Trump said.

“I got up and I said, ‘They’re stealing your car business,’” Trump said. “And, I was really rebuked. That said that wasn’t a very nice thing to say. But it’s the truth that I was right. That was a long time ago, 'Man of the Year' in Michigan. We’ve been doing this stuff a long time actually.”

This was not the first time Trump has claimed to have won the award. He has referenced winning the award since 2016.

"It’s true, about five or six years ago I was given the 'Man of the Year' (award) in Michigan," Trump said in August 2019. "And I made a speech. I didn’t know I’d be doing this. I didn’t know I’d be running for president. I made a speech and I said, ‘Your car industry is being stolen from you.’”

Multiple news outlets have fact-checked the claims. There is no evidence that such an award exists.

Detroit News has a list, titled "Michiganians of the Year," but the outlet confirmed that Trump had never won the award. The Michigan Chamber of Commerce also said it does not award a "Man of the Year" title, according to Snopes.

Meanwhile, Rep. Lisa McClain, R-Mich., said on Saturday that Trump "caught Osama bin Laden."

Bin Laden was shot and killed in May 2011, several years before Trump served his term in the White House.
