  • Donald Trump won't provide free security protection for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
  • The POTUS received support after saying that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wouldn't receive free security protection
  • The Sussexes have to pay for their own security protection in the US

Donald Trump just confirmed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s security protection won’t be shouldered by the federal government.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the POTUS posted a cryptic tweet about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, as well as Queen Elizabeth II.

“I am a great friend and admirer of the Queen & the United Kingdom. It was reported that Harry and Meghan, who left the Kingdom, would reside permanently in Canada. Now they have left Canada for the U.S. however, the U.S. will not pay for their security protection. They must pay! ” he said.

The POTUS’s firm statement came after reports swirled that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex need Trump’s approval for diplomatic protection after moving to the United States. According to Daily Mail, the president’s secret service agents look after the Queen and Prince Charles during their visits to the United States.

But since Prince Harry and Markle are no longer official members of the royal family, and they will be permanently residing in the country, the POTUS won’t be shouldering the cost of their security protection.

Last week, sources also claimed that the royal couple decided to leave Canada are residing there for almost three months because the government refused to pay for their security costs. A spokesperson for the government released a statement saying that they already shouldered the couple’s security during their first few months in North America but this won’t be done permanently.

Meanwhile, Trump’s tweet about Prince Harry and Markle’s security protection cost garnered a slew of mixed reactions from his social media followers.

“The same Meghan Markle that said she would leave the US if Trump was elected is the same girl that now wants our President Trump to sign off on making the taxpayers pay for her security bill? bye girl ,” Twitter user @TheRightMelissa said.

“These spoiled brats want American taxpayers – many of whom have lost their jobs or suffered serious financial setbacks due to #COVID19 – to foot the bill for their ‘security?’ Yeah, OK. Request: DENIED,” Twitter user @DavidWohl said.

“This is literally irrelevant,” Twitter user @eugenegu said.
