Dua Lipa shared some details behind the creation of her second album “Future Nostalgia.”

In 2017, Lipa released her self-titled debut album which became an international hit. This included her single “New Rules,” which was a massive success in the U.S. In 2019, she picked up two Grammys, including one for best new artist.

Thus, when she worked on her second album, Lipa admitted that she was pressured. “I was like, ‘Oh my God, I have to try and do something with the second record.’ But I wanted to get away from all those pressures and other people’s expectations and opinions of what I should be doing because I felt like then I would try and recreate ‘New Rules’ and never get anywhere,” Lipa told People. “I wanted to mature as an artist.”

She decided to think of other names and when “Future Nostalgia” crossed her mind, the rest fell into place. The album is expertly curated, cohesive and timeless because it covers significant matters that everyone can easily relate to including love, loss, sex, and the Time’s Up movement.

“It felt to me like something that wasn’t happening on the radio, and I wanted to try and do something different,” she continued. “I felt a lot more confident going in and writing on this record. I knew exactly what I wanted to say and how I wanted to say it.”

Lipa released “Levitating” first for her second album. Then she dropped the following tracks “Don’t Start Now” and “Physical.” Lipa explained that the song felt like “family” in relation to its sound and it explains the album.

“That song really helped me explain to everyone else — my team and the producers and people that I was working with — like, ‘Okay, this is it,” she continued. “I felt like had both elements of the future and nostalgia in it. I just started basing everything off of it. It had to fit in that world and that was the song.”

Meanwhile, Lipa was called “quarantine queen” by the New York Magazine. The “IDGAF” hitmaker reacted by saying that it was “funny” especially the timing when people are quarantining at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“When I first wanted to put the music out, I imagined it being played in pubs and bars and for going out. Being called Quarantine Queen, I don't know - it's funny, I guess,” Lipa said.
