British singer Ellie Goulding has clarified recent relationship rumors in the latest issue of Elle magazine. For example, the 28-year-old blond beauty has denied that she was ever in a relationship with musician Ed Sheeran and cheated on him with One Direction's Niall Horan.

"I did go on a few dates with Niall, but I was never in a relationship with Ed," Goulding told Elle UK. "I have absolutely no idea where that came from and why it was turned into such a big thing." The “Love Me Like You Do” singer made headlines in 2014 when a British tabloid reported that Sheeran's song, “Don't” was inspired by her. The tabloid said that Sheeran and Goulding were dating but she cheated on him with Horan.

The “Burn” singer then went on to question the media's take on successful women in the entertainment industry. The singer said she fails to understand why people are more interested in the dating lives of celebrities, especially women. She said she discussed the matter with friend Taylor Swift, who echoes her feelings.

Goulding told the magazine that she finds it “so frustrating that female musicians are constantly defined by the men they have or haven't dated.” Her friend Swift “definitely feels” the same and also gets “bothered by it," Goulding told the mag. She also appeared in Swift's star-studded music video “Bad Blood.”

"It's like, you can be a great artist, you can write great songs, but the thing that everyone is going to talk about is some relationship they think you have had or not had,” said Goulding, adding that it is “something we both [she and Swift] think happens to female artists over male artists.”

Goulding has dated several men in the past but said she is currently in a stable relationship with Dougie Poynter, the youngest member of English rock band McFly. Goulding fancied Poynter as a teenager but always thought he was “so out of my league” because of his good looks. The singer has not decided on a wedding date with Poynter yet but says her ex-flame DJ Calvin Harris -- who is now linked to Swift -- has offered to play at the event.
