Legendary singer and songwriter Elton John has declared Madonna's career "over", according to The Hollywood Reporter. In an interview with Australia's "Sunday Night" television program, John insulted the pop star, referring to her as a "c---" and a "fairground stripper." Madonna is currently on her "MDNA" tour, where she's been the target of harsh criticism from critics and fans alike.

"She's such a nightmare. Her career is over, I can tell you that," John said. "Her tour is a disaster and it couldn't happen to a bigger c---," John said. "If Madonna had any common sense, she would have made a record like 'Ray of Light,' stayed away from the dance stuff and just been a great pop singer and made great pop records, which she does brilliantly."

John went on to praise pop artists Katy Perry and Rihanna, while also making a point to say that Madonna has "been terrible to Gaga" in reference to his child's godmother, Lady Gaga. John, a longtime detractor of Madonna, wrote (after Madonna's Golden Globe win) that "Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit. Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in its narcissism."

Elton John's appearance on "Sunday Night" was to commemorate the 40th anniversary of his classic tune "Rocket Man", which topped the charts at No. 2 in the UK and No. 6 in the U.S. in 1972.
