A woman from Houston was arrested Wednesday for throwing a malnourished dog out of her car window.

Police responded to 11200 block of Will Clayton Parkway on Monday after receiving a report that a person threw a puppy out of a car window. After almost a day's search, police were able to find the canine. Harris County Animal Control took the dog away and were looking after it. The shelter workers told police that the animal was malnourished and so severely underweight that it would barely stand up. They believe the canine was neglected for several months.

"I mean, it's definitely not an overnight thing obviously. It would definitely take quite some time to have a dog this emaciated,” Shannon Parker with the Harris County Animal Shelter said, adding that despite being in a bad conditioned, the canine was very loving.

The canine will soon be up for adoption.

"She's going to take not just a bowl of food here and there to get her back to where she needs to be and to make sure her organs are functioning properly," Parker said.

In the meantime, police were able to trace the driver who threw the canine. During interrogation, 31-year-old Princess Franklin told the police that an ex-roommate left the dog behind and that she decided to leave it on the roadside as she couldn’t find a place to take it. She was arrested and charged with animal cruelty. She was scheduled to appear in court Friday.
