Empire
Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) remains hopeful that Lucious (Terrence Howard) will regain his memory on “Empire” Season 4, episode 1. Fox

After a long wait, viewers will finally see the Lyon clan return to their television screens. “Empire” Season 4 is set to premiere on Fox, once again showcasing the brood, which almost lost their leader last season. Despite the dramatic event, the resilient family is back to continue their fight to remain on top and overcome the many obstacles thrown their way.

“Lucious (Terrence Howard) makes his first public appearance since the explosion in Las Vegas to help celebrate Empire’s 20th anniversary, but still has no memory of his family, Empire or his life before the accident,” the synopsis for “Noble Memory” teases.

In the promo, Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) can be seen telling someone that the Lyons are a family and always stick together. In the Season 4 finale, everything seemed to finally fall into place for Cookie. She and Lucious were finally together, and Empire was continuing to successfully grow. However, her happiness didn’t last long.

Lucious’ car exploded and he lost his memory. In the promo, the family is working to jog his memory, but it looks like getting the old Lucious Lyon back won’t be an easy task.

“A devastated Cookie struggles to rebuild her relationship with him while keeping a close eye on his nurse (Demi Moore),” the synopsis for “Empire” Season 4, episode 1 says. In the promo for the Fox series, Cookie can be seen telling the nurse that she can see what she is doing with Lucious.

When the nurse insists that Cookie doesn’t understand what she saw, Cookie tells her that she has seen this type of behavior before. “It doesn’t take a Ph.D. to know you running game,” Cookie says.

In the Season 3 finale, the nurse was seen getting a little too close to Lucious for Cookie’s comfort. When Lucious finally woke up from his coma, he seemed frightened and couldn’t remember his family. However, he seemed at ease when the nurse comforted him. Could she have ulterior motives for helping Lucious?

“Meanwhile, Andre (Trai Byers) is faced with an investigation by the LAPD,” the synopsis for “Noble Memory” states. Although Andre is into a lot of shady stuff, the reason for his latest investigation is unclear. Last season, Andre attempted to kill his father, but changed his mind at the last minute.

Despite his decision to let his father live, Andre’s partner in crime, Shyne (Xzibit), followed through with the plan to blow up Lucious’ car, which resulted in his amnesia. While this clearly was a premeditated murder, it took place in Las Vegas. Why has the LAPD turned their attention to the eldest Lyon son?

“Diana DuBois (Phylicia Rashad) continues her war against the Lyons,” the synopsis for the Fox series says. Last season, Diana told Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) that he could have his daughter back if he did whatever she told him to do.

In the promo, Diana can be seen telling someone that Cookie ruined her life, and she has every intention of ruining her kid’s lives in retaliation. Later on, she accuses Hakeem of treason for “consorting with the enemy.” Will Hakeem betray his family to get his daughter back?

“Carlotta (Queen Latifah) comes face-to-face with Cookie and Lucious,” the synopsis teases. The “Empire” Season 4 premiere will also mark the first ever crossover episode with creator Lee Daniel’s other series, “Star.”

In a preview of the crossover, Carlotta can be seen approaching, Lucious informing him that she has a girl group and she thought that Lucious may want to help them out. Although it is unclear whether Carlotta and Lucious have a history, Lucious is not the same man he once was, which means he may or may not help them.

In the past, Lucious was vicious, but he was always open to hearing a new voice. However, he is still trying to gain an understanding of who he is and he may not want the additional work. Will Lucious be the leading force behind Carlotta’s girl group or will he pass them on to someone else?

“Empire” Season 4 premieres Wednesday at 8 p.m. EDT on Fox.
