Coined as “Training Day” meets “The Exorcist,” Guy Pearce’s upcoming film, titled “The Seventh Day,” explores the day-long training of a newbie priest by a respected exorcist. Reported by Deadline, the narrative will see the duo falling deeper and ever-closer towards the rim of evil, underscoring both their demons with unnatural clarity.

Justin P. Lange is set to write and direct the film with Voltage Pictures dealing with international distribution. In an interview with Collider, he discussed the nature of his work and the expected dimensions his upcoming film will travel:

“This is a story about the rising spread of a pervasive evil. We live in an increasingly dark world, one where it’s difficult to know who to trust, or what to believe. It’s a scary time, and scary times call for scary movies.”

While his debut film, 2018’s “The Dark,” didn’t sit as well with audiences, it still offered a tiny glimpse into the mind of the filmmaker. And, with the onboarding of Guy Pearce, whose recent credits include “Bloodshot,” “Disturbing the Peace,” and “Domino,” Lange’s forthcoming horror movie is primed to be one wild excursion to hell.

In that same Collider interview, Lange discussed his new lead’s profundity, saying, “Guy Pearce is an extraordinary talent. That rare combination of bona fide movie star and consummate artist. I can’t wait for audiences to see what he has in store for them with this role.”

There’s no denying Lange’s excitement. It’s unclear who Pearce will be portraying, though if he channels the same energy as he did from 2000’s “Memento,” in line with this “Exorcist-Training Day” narrative, “The Seventh Day” is well on its way to terrifying greatness.

In addition to Kimberly Hwang, Dallas Sonnier, and Chelsea Davenport, the film will also be produced by Fangoria’s Amanda Presmyk, giving it that all-around horror tone. There’s no official release date as of yet, so horror fans will just have to wait to find out when they can spiral into fear itself with Pearce.
