The manager of a factory in India was arrested after he allegedly raped a 15-year-old employee and forced her to drink acid, police said Saturday.

The incident took place on July 5 in the Indian capital of Delhi. The accused, identified as Jai Parkash, 31, invited the victim to his house under the pretext of visiting his unwell wife. When the girl arrived at the residence, the man raped her there with the support of his wife, according to News 18.

A few days after committing the sexual assault, Prakash intercepted the victim while she was on her way home and forced her to drink an acid-like liquid in an apparent bid to kill her.

The girl fell unconscious after she reached home and was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in a critical condition, Deputy Commissioner of Police Sameer Sharma told DNA India.

Cops registered a case based on the victim's testimony. The accused was booked for an attempt to murder, rape, and under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the POSCO (Protection Of Children From The Sexual Offences Act), according to News 18.

The Delhi Commission For Women (DCW) has issued a notice to the police regarding the case, stating that the girl's father, who works as a daily-wage laborer had approached them after the assault.

The victim's father said she used to work at a shoe factory. "The girl was allegedly forcibly made to drink acid. Our team is constantly monitoring the condition of the girl and providing all possible assistance to her and her family," DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal said in a statement to News 18.
