TV fans are used to seeing Brad Garrett being funny. He won three Emmy awards for playing the lovable oaf Robert Barone in the long-running CBS sitcom "Everybody Loves Raymond." They are not, however, used to seeing him be sinister. For Garrett, that is exactly what was appealing about joining the cast of FX's "Fargo" Season 2.

In "Fargo," Garrett plays Joe Bulo, a midlevel manager in the Kansas City mafia tasked with disposing of the Gerhardt crime family in Fargo, North Dakota. With the help of his No. 2 man -- the comically evil Mike Milligan (Bokeem Woodbine) -- Bulo means to acquire the Gerhardts' business by any means necessary. His partnership with Milligan is interesting. Viewers have seen Milligan in action already, creatively using a typewriter in an episode 2 scene to interrogate a sheepish salesman. Now fans will see how the pair work together.

Watch Garrett as Joe Bulo and Woodbine as Mike Milligan in a clip from episode 3 below:

"Mike has many abilities and talents," Garrett told International Business Times Monday, referencing his partner's penchant for violence. "This is their first time in the field together."

Garrett says the duo's differing approaches brings an added layer to the subtle storytelling of "Fargo."

"Joe is an old-school guy," Garrett said. "Early on he figures out that this might be a guy that surpasses him. [Joe] has the upper hand, but down the line [Mike] will be making the calls. That's an extra thing to play. It raises the stakes. Joe needs to get the job done to prove himself."

Episode 3 will be Garrett's biggest hour yet in the series. Fans should be ready to see a completely different character from his "Everybody Loves Raymond" days, but that does not mean there will not be a few laughs.

"That's what was attractive [about the character]," Garrett said. He's someone who's humorous despite himself. Its great to play someone who doesn't mean to be funny. The humor comes from character, not from jokes."

"Fargo" airs Mondays at 10 p.m. EDT on FX. Watch the promo for episode 3 below:
