Kim Engelbrecht as The Mechanic, Neil Sandilands as Cliffor DeVoe
Barry (Grant Gustin) tries to convince his team that Clifford DeVoe (Neil Sandilands) is not the man he seems to be in Season 4, episode 7 of “The Flash” The CW

Barry and Iris’ wedding is just a week away in next week’s installment of “The Flash.”

According to the synopsis for Season 4, episode 7 of “The Flash,” Iris (Candice Patton) puts the final touches on the wedding. But she’s worried that the nuptial might not push through due to Barry’s (Grant Gustin) newfound obsession with Clifford DeVoe (Neil Sandilands), aka The Thinker.

At the end Season 4, episode 6, the Council of Wells narrowed down the long list of DeVoes to one Clifford DeVoe. With this knowledge, Team Flash quickly headed out to pay Clifford a visit. But as revealed at the beginning of the hour, Clifford and his assistant The Mechanic (Kim Engelbrecht) predicted that Team Flash would find them on that day, so they welcomed them at the front door of their home disguised as husband and wife.

Despite Clifford’s unassuming appearance, Barry is not completely convinced that the wheelchair-bound man has nothing to do with the “bus metas.” “This guy, he feels more dangerous,” Barry says of DeVoe in the trailer for the episode. “He’s not what he seems. … This guy wants us to think that he’s unassuming but he’s not.”

Apparently, Iris, Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker), Cisco (Carlos Valdes), and Harry (Tom Cavanagh) don’t share Barry’s impression of Clifford. So in an attempt to prove his suspicion, Barry embarks on what appears to be a solo mission and breaks into Clifford’s home. Although Barry ends up getting caught, it remains to be seen whether or not he finds something that will verify his doubts about Clifford.

Elsewhere in the episode, Clifford’s past is revealed through flashbacks. But will those flashbacks also reveal why he’s after Team Flash?

Teasing Clifford’s ultimate objective, executive producer Kreisberg told TV Insider last September that The Thinker “has a need” for The Flash. Fellow executive producer Todd Helbing also told TVLine in the same month that Clifford is motivated by something personal that he experienced rather than a desire for world domination.

“The Flash” Season 4, episode 7, titled “Therefore I Am,” airs on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
