A 53-year-old man in Florida has been arrested for the murder of a woman after DNA evidence tied him to the crime scene.

Two months after the woman's death, officials announced the arrest of Michael Douglas, who is accused of tying up the victim and stabbing her 38 times, police said, as reported by Law & Crime on Sunday.

As North Port city in Sarasota County was bracing for Hurricane Ian, the North Port police received a report on Sept. 26 of an apparent homicide at South Haberland Boulevard. Cops who responded to the scene found the body of an unidentified victim with multiple stab wounds.

"Once on site, officers found a gruesome scene, with the victim bound and stabbed multiple times," the North Port Police department said in a news release Friday.

"The victim was on the floor, lying on her back with both hands bound behind her body and her mouth taped," the officials said in the arrest affidavit, as per the outlet.

After a detailed investigation based on the video, forensic and DNA evidence found at and around the crime scene, Douglas, who is from Port Charlotte, was reportedly arrested on charges of first-degree premeditated murder.

Cops found out that Douglas was romantically interested in the victim and had been forcing her to end the relationship she was in. He also allegedly showed a picture of the victim to his co-workers and encouraged them to look at his "beautiful wife," the arrest affidavit said.

Although he denied having any sexual contact with the woman, a sexual assault kit done on the victim's body matched Douglas' DNA profile.

A video obtained from an off-duty cop also showed the man's vehicle parked down the street from the victim's house just an hour before cops arrived at the scene.

"It is due to hard work and dedication from our agency, which will help our victim's family find some sort of justice for this senseless and heinous crime," North Port Police Chief Todd Garrison said in the news release.

Douglas was remanded to police custody and was held at the Sarasota County Jail as of Sunday.
